History of the Reformation

History of the Reformation
por Justo L. González

Paul declares: “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” In these words from the Bible, Luther found the answer to his struggles and his need to be forgiven. He said: “I felt like I had been born again and that the gates of paradise had opened.” They were also words that changed the course of church history, marking the beginning of the Protestant Evangelical Church.

Unlike other texts,  Dr. Gonzalez presents the history of the of the sixteenth century Reformation from the Hispanic perspective.  He begins with Queen Isabella, whose kingdom played a key role in the politics of Europe at that time. The later chapters deal with the beginning of the colonization of the Americas, a contemporaneous event alongside the Reformation.

By reading this book you will understand the conflicts of interest and struggle for power that infected the medieval church. You will also understand Martin Luther’s stance against the abuses and excesses that led him to break with the structures of the Catholic Church, and the role the reformers took  in this historic movement that affected the entire world. You will see how God used the lives of these men of faith to allow the return to the biblical gospel and the beginning of  revival in the church.
